Tolpuddle, Dorset, South West England

The picturesque village of Tolpuddle is situated in the valley of the River Piddle also known as the River Trent. It is thought that Tolpuddle gets its name a woman called Tole at the time of Edward the Confessor. She and her husband were benefactors to Abbotsbury Abbey.
Tolpuddle will always be remembered for the Tolpuddle Martyrs. For more information about them click on the photos of the village above.
Follow signposts to Tolpuddle from the A35 between Dorchester and Bournemouth. Park at the side of the road in the village. There is usually plenty of space to park. The 387 bus service between Dorchester and Poole stops at the Martyrs Inn. The walk starts from the junction of White Hill and the Main Road near the Martyrs Inn.
